July 6th – Golf (Running Total +$550)
We start with our bet with a look back on our bet on Sean O’Hair to run in the top five. We never really looked in the hunt on that punt. The usually consistent O’Hair has just struggled of late and i think confidence is a big issue. We’ll leave him on the back burner for a few more rounds.
I did mention that Tiger would be hard to beat but i know alot of you struggle to justify taking the short odds. Sometimes it is just worth it even to lay him off if he shoots a round anywhere near the leaders early. It is worth noting that Tiger has won 3 tournaments this year and each of them has been his lead up tournament to a major. That being the Open Championship (British Open) in a couple of weeks.
In Europe i suggested we stick with Nick Dougherty who looked good for 3 rounds but had an absolute shocker in the second. I didn’t catch that round so i’m not sure what happened but maybe Nick isn’t over those demons i thought he’d exorcised last week. I did mention that Martin Kaymer had fired off to a great start and in the end he held off a spirited Lee Westwood holding his cool to win in a playoff. Without a doubt Kaymer is a man to follow and loves the pressure of a close finish. I would have considered him for a Open bet but that win will now see his odds murdered beyond compare.
Instead my early Open Championship bet is for the young Irishman Rory McIroy who is currently $26 on betfair. This kid has the game and i have noticed he even has the ability to score when he’s not striking it well. Although there are some from the PGA tour in form i think McIlroy is well worth having an early bet on.
Results from the weekend Loss -$100
