January 20th – PGA and European Tour Golf
I normally hold off till after the first round but have decided to post my selections for everyone this week.
Golf kicks off early this weekend with the PGA Tour’s Bob Hope Classic getting underway on Wednesday (US Time) Thursday morning in Australia. This course has been won by some of the purest iron players on the tour and I would expect that trend to continue this weekend. Tempted to take on the Big 8 (J. Leonard, M. Weir, R. Moore, T. Clark, C. Campbell, J. Rose, P. Perez and M Kuchar) at $2.85 but I have a feeling there are a few golfers who could enjoy not having to belt the cover off every ball. The main reason that swayed me away from these 8 is that some of them aren’t in form and I don’t think can win and it leaves out some really strong contenders in DAVID TOMS ($42) who played really well last week without luck, JOHN SENDEN ($38) who just loves these styles of courses and NICK O’HERN ($95) who is ranked as one of the best iron players on the PGA Tour. I really like the look of our head to head bets in this tournament which are at the bottom of the page. **Nick O’hern didn’t take his place in the starting field.
In the European Tour we head to Abu Dhabi and a stellar field takes to the course. Hard to find a winner at the odds on offer but one of our favourite golfers to follow MARTIN KAYMER ($15) has to be seriously considered as he has finished 1st and 2nd in his last 2 attempts here and has a proven record when playing in the middle east. We have also seen how quickly he finds some form after having some time off too. The more I type the more I am tempted to place some money on him for the outright win (Ok I will!). LEE WESTWOOD ($14) also has very strong claims after proving in 2009 that he has made the next step up to be considered one of the best in the world week in week out. When making your selections here keep in mind that this is a high scoring course. The winner will have to shoot close to if not higher than 20 under. That brings in people such as CAMILLO VILEGAS ($42), LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN ($50) and DANNY WILLET ($75). Willett also played very well last week and may have overcome the yips he had at the end of 2009. THONGJAI JAIDEE ($140) has performed well here in the past and is a great price whilst I also consider JEEV MILKHA SINGH ($130) a huge show in this part of the world as he loves the warm conditions as well.
