June 19th – World Cup Day 9
We’ll get the review over and done with nice and early this morning after a shocking result last night. First up Germany were stunned by Serbia 1-0 which stomps on claims that they are title contenders this year. However, round 2 of matches has produced some similar results so far whereby teams who came into the tournament with high hopes and were disappointing in the first round and have produced results in the 2nd. In the same category would have to be Mexico and Greece and I’m sure there will be more out there. England’s campaign is in disarray after a dreadful 0-0 draw against a pretty average Algerian team. This leaves England needing a win in their final match against Slovenia to advance to the Round of 16. Slovenia through away a golden chance to be automatically qualified when they lead USA 2-0 at half time. Michael Bradley’s half time speech inspired the Americans into a spirited comeback that should have resulted in a 3-2 victory but the last minute goal was disallowed to end in a 2-2 draw. USA also has their own fate in their hands with a win over Algeria guaranteeing a 2nd round berth.
Tonight’s games area nightmare to try and pick. First up HOLLAND ($1.40) who were very clinical in their first round match take on JAPAN ($9.00) who upset Cameroon. A win for either team guarantees qualification so there will be a lot at stake here. I expect Holland to go about their business and win but the price is a little too skinny for me to get on. 2nd match of the night sees AUSTRALIA’S ($4.00) hopes on the line when they take on GHANA ($2.00) in a must win match. In fact if the Aussies can scratch together a win it’ll mean all 4 teams in Group D will have had 1 win and 1 loss and be all on 3 points making the final round matches very tense. If logic played any part then the Aussies are in trouble as Ghana beat Serbia who beat Germany who beat Australia. There seems to be some internal issues in the Aussie camp who is far from the tight unit that went deep in the 2006 tournament. The final match of the night see’s CAMEROON ($2.88) take on DENMARK ($2.50) and it’s a match that mixes contrasting styles. Cameroon likes to play attacking football while Denmark prefer to keep in their own half.
Our bets tonight are:
CAMEROON to beat Denmark at $2.88 on SportsBet (Sports Managed Fund 5% Bet)
June 18th – World Cup Day 8
Argentina asserted themselves as a real contender for the title last night winning its second game of the tournament in emphatic fashion 4-1 over South Korea. Meanwhile Greece who we’d mentioned was way over the odds at $4.00 in our preview overcame a game Nigeria to record a 2-1 victory and keep their hopes of advancing to the next round alive. The Final game for the night was the most satisfying with our tip to qualify for the Round of 16 Mexico putting France on the brink of elimination with a 2-0 victory.
To tonight’s games and we start with the clinical Germany ($1.60) set to keep their momentum going from their 1st round slaughter of Australia against Serbia ($6.00). Serbia didn’t show up at all in their first game against Ghana and I’d expect the Germans to take control and put themselves in a commanding position in Group D. Game 2 of the night sees the USA ($2.05) take on Slovenia ($3.80). Whilst the Americans were probably lucky to get a draw in their first round against England I would expect them to have a win here and put themselves in a strong position to qualify for the Round of 16. For the final game of the night / morning England ($1.25) will be looking for redemption against Algeria ($11.00) and I expect them to deliver in spades. Algeria will no doubt try and stifle them by playing a defensive game so it may take them a while to warm up and you may not get to see a 4 or 5 nil romping but I expect this performance to put them back on track and focused.
Our bets tonight are:
GERMANY to beat Serbia at $1.60 on SportsBet (Sports Managed Fund 10% Bet)
USA to beat Slovenia at $2.05 on SportsBet (Sports Managed Fund 5% Bet)
***The promotion below might be a great one to take advantage of. If you add England in as your 3rd leg you only need 2 of the 3 results to get up to be get your money back at the very least.
June 18th – NRL Round 15 Preview
At just past the half way mark of the year I’d have to put the BRISBANE BRONCOS ($12.00 on SportsBet, $16.00 on Betfair) on top as my favourites for the title at the current odds. They have begun a really strong surge up the ladder after an indifferent start and now the young players they brought on board have gained confidence and the ability to win games. Guided round the park by some of the best leaders in the game they are tremendous value and I have had one of my biggest ever bets on a premiership winner this far out from the end. Obviously ST GEORGE DRAGONS ($3.40 on SportsBet, $3.70 on Betfair) have to be considered cue to their consistency over the past couple of seasons but I still worry about their ability to bring the title home after they have shown signs of wilting under the pressure before. MANLY SEA EAGLES ($7.00 on SportsBet, $8.00 on Betfair) are 2nd favourites for the crown even though they have been erratic at times this year. They have a superb forward pack that can match it with any team and that helps there very young and inexperienced halves. Those halves are the only real doubt for me as when it gets to the business end of the season you can’t hesitate there. The advantage Manly has is Jamie Lyon in the centers who can move inside and take control if one of the boys starts to panic. Actually SportsBet is offering $33.00 for the Brisbane / Manly quinella for the Grand Final which I think is well worth a couple of dollars!
To the round 15 games and we kick off with the BRISBANE BRONCOS ($1.50) backing up against the youthful PENRITH PANTHERS ($2.65). There are many who say never back a team backing up from a State of Origin game but I am certainly not one of them. In fact if you listen to the players many of them say if they have a quick back up they are less likely to suffer the muscle fatigue they would have if they had to play a Monday night game. Add to that the fact the Panthers are without there real go forward man and inspirational leader in Petero Cinoviceva and I think the Broncos look good things here. The 2nd game tonight sees the CANTERBURY BULLDOGS ($2.10) take on the GOLD COAST TITANS ($1.75) and good luck picking this one. Trying to work out when the Bulldogs are going to fire is like trying to watch paint dry. They clearly have potential and seem to put together 1 good half of football but thats not enough in the NRL. The fact they have transferred the game to Brisbane’s Suncorp stadium may be a mistake when they could’ve used some home town support to get their season moving.
Saturday night has 2 games this week. The MELBOURNE STORM ($1.57) takes on NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS ($2.45) at home in what could be an entertaining match. You never seem to know what this storm side will produce this year with no points on offer. Tipping them is a nightmare but you can be sure they do like to entertain one way or another. The Cowboys will welcome back their leader and could really do with a win here to get them a chance for some Semi Final football later in the year. MANLY SEA EAGLES ($1.60) vs the erratic SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS ($2.38) is game 2 and I couldn’t go near this game either. While I think Manly should win as they are the better side and have a good record against the bunnies, who knows what Souths team will show up. Without doubt Souths can beat anyone in the comp when they are on. They have a massive forward pack, electric halves and a young and talented back line.
Sunday puts together 2 games that could be really entertaining. The CRONULLA SHARKS ($2.80) have found some real momentum since their wet and ugly win over the Knights over a month ago and could provide a real stumbling block for the ST GEORGE DRAGONS ($1.45). The Sharks will be very happy to hear that Paul Gallen escaped suspension for his high tackle on Wednesday night as he is a critical part of the team. Although the Dragons won 38-0 in Round 8 earlier in the year I think this will be much closer. For the 2nd game the up and down WESTS TIGERS ($1.40) vs the CANBERRA RAIDERS ($3.05). I’d like to say the Raiders are good value but every stat I turn over suggests that the Tigers should win this and win it well. They did what they had to in the wet against the Bulldogs 2 weeks ago and are fully rested from the bye. They have also secured the services of talented fullback Wade Mackinnon for the first time this year. The game is being played at Leichardt Oval which always brings a very parochial crowd that will be full of supporters hoping for blood. Canberra’s hopes rest on their origin stars being fit as they really need to be able to match the Tigers in the forwards to be a show. Without a tight ruck the speedy Tigers will run riot.
Monday this week is in Newcastle for the NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS ($2.40) against the PARRAMATTA EELS ($1.60). Kurt Gidley will be praying he has a pleseant night after an average one on Wednesday. Not only the losing captain (again) but playing out of position he made some basic errors that lead to tries and was very disapoitning. He is a class player and playing in his preferred position he should be much stronger. To be honest though I can’t see it with the team in turmoil and seemingly changing their line-up from week to week, especially in the halves. Whilst I didn’t mention the Eels as Grand Final contenders earlier they have got class all over the park and I expect them to take the 2 point here.
Our bets are:
BRISBANE BRONCOS to beat the Penrith Panthers by more than 5.5 points at $1.92 (Sports Managed Fund 10% Bet)
CRONULLA SHARKS with 7.5 points start against the St George Dragons at $1.92 (Sports Managed Fund 5% Bet)
WESTS TIGERS to beat Canberra Raiders by 13+ at $2.40 (Sports Managed Fund 5% Bet)
PARRAMATTA EELS to beat the Newcastle Knights by more than 6 points at $2.10 (Sports Managed Fund 5% Bet)
June 17th – World Cup Football Day 6
Biggest upset of the tournament so far happened last night with tournament favourites Spain going down 1-0 to a solid and unified Switzerland. Spain totally dominated possession in the first half but couldn’t seem to find any real chances and in the end the defensive minded Swiss took their opportunity when it came and got a very important 3 points. Spain now have their destiny in the hands of the Swiss who could finish top of the table and meaning Spain would only be fighting for 2nd place and a 2nd round match against Brazil. In the other games Chile did what it had to against Honduras with an early goal the only scoring for a 1-0 win whilst Uruguay followed up on our predictions from last night to score a resounding victory over hosts South Africa 3-0.
To tonight’s games and things really start to liven up and we have 3 great matches for viewing if you plan on getting a late night. First up Argentina ($1.44) take on South Korea ($8.00). Both teams had first round victories against Nigeria and Greece respectively and looked pretty confident doing so. In fact the Koreans upset the more fancied Greece that I had predicted to take the 2nd spot on the table so I’m a bit unsure how to read this game. A loss here for either team puts their head on the chopping block while a win assures qualification to the Round of 16 so there is a lot of play for. I would expect a fairly defensive game from both teams with counter attacking being the main form of offence. For the 2nd match of the night it’s do or die for both teams and nothing but a win will be good enough when Nigeria ($2.00) take on Greece ($4.00). At first glance of the odds I really want to back Greece as I was very confident on them going into the tournament but I guess it’s once bitten twice shy in that regard and maybe steering clear of the whole nest might be the way to play. I might put them in a multi with a few other teams for interests sake. The final match of the night / morning sees the biggest match of them all when France ($2.25) takes on Mexico ($3.40). both teams had disappointing results in their first round matches seeing them score draws which means that now Uruguay has come out and won their 2nd round match 3-0 they are both staring down the barrel of elimination. A loss here wouldn’t end their campaign but a severe dent, probably more so for Mexico. We already invested interest in this game through Mexico qualifying so I don’t really see the need to bet again here but a draw ($3.10) would be my most likely outcome. This would leave Mexico to play for their life against Uruguay whilst France would get to take on the lowly South Africans for a berth in the round of 16.
No bets tonight.
June 17th – US Open Golf Championship
What a great weekend to be home watching sport with the World Cup starting to heat up and many teams dreams being dashed as they enter their 2nd round matches. But for me the real spectacle will be the US Open Golf Championship held at the majestic Pebble Beach Golf Course. This course has seen some of the biggest names in golf take the title here and mostly due to its tough layout when played during a major championship. The last 4 times the US Open has been held at Pebble Beach the winners have been Jack Nicholas (1972), Tom Watson (1982), Tom Kite (1992) and Tiger Woods (2000) who incredibly won by 15 strokes in 2000 finishing 12 under par meaning the 2 nearest rivals and in fact every other player on the course was over par. Considering how bad TIGER WOODS ($8.00) is playing at the moment it’d be hard to see him being a real contender again but he proved at the Masters at Augusta National that he has favourite venues that even when not playing well he can rise to the occasion so don’t count him out if it gets in a dog fight. The big thing I’ve noticed since his comeback earlier in the year has been his putting which used to be a corner stone of his fantastic game. He is missing many more smaller putts than he ever used to and I believe that focus is the main issue. If his head is right he is right in this!
To the other contenders and I’d be crazy once again to not mention PHIL MICKELSON ($8.00) who won the year’s first major in the Masters at Augusta. He has also been there or there abouts in a numbers of tournaments and although he isn’t winning as many as he probably should I’d probably say he’s playing better than he has for a while (That’s so hard for me to say!). He does also boast 5 runner-up crowns at the US Open. ERNIE ELS ($31.00) is a fairly nice price considering he hasn’t been without form in recent times and did finish runner-up to Woods in 2000 at Pebble Beach. His short game is probably the key here and although it hasn’t been as good as when he was top of the world many years ago he could easily find his game at a venue he loves. MIGUEL ANGEL JIMINEZ ($126.00) is incredibly priced considering he finished tied with Els as runner-up in 2000 and has been in the best form of his career in recent times. He has a win this year and just looks in control of his game which sometimes can get a little wayward. I said at the start of the season that LEE WESTWOOD ($13.00) is primed to win a major but I’m not going to go with him here. He at times can be a little gunho with his chipping and approach shots from long range and that can really hurt you around Pebble Beach. While it’s important to be able to make birdies, which Westwood can do, I think it more crucial to stop the bleeding which I think could really hurt him here. I’ve said all year the Open Championship at St Andrews is his for the winning in a few weeks time. It’s also the reason I am shying away from another punters favourite in PADRAIG HARRINGTON ($29.00) who has been up and down for the past 2 years and whilst he has still managed to finish at the top end of many leaderboard’s this year he still seems to be fighting with his driver and unfortunately on a course like Pebble he could produce and 8 or 9 hole which will blow him out of the water. The player who has really come out of the clouds as far as major contenders in recent weeks has been LUKE DONALD ($34.00) who is consistently bringing results to the table and his short game will excel around this style of course. Although his US Open record isn’t flash this layout is much shorter which he is more comfortable with as he’s not the biggest hitter on tour. A real chance here! I also suggested at the start of the season ROBERT ALLENBY ($67.00) was going to have his best season yet and he started on fire with a couple of runner-up performances and probably should have won one of those at least. He is probably considered a chance here due to his supreme ball-striking but I feel he will be better suited in the final major of the year in the US PGA Championship later in the year. RORY McILROY ($34.00) is also being talked up as a contender with some strong performances this year but I think he is far to erratic to win on this course and his big advantage is his length which is somewhat negated by the shorter course here. Finally but certainly not leastly (Don’t think that’s a word but you get my drift), CAMILLO VILEGAS ($41.00) has really found some form in recent weeks and he could really shine at Pebble Beach. His short game is looking superb at the moment and his is an excellent ball-striker who when on, can fire off a number of quick birdies. Small greens will not bother him at all.
Our bets this weekend are:
CAMILLO VILEGAS to beat Dustin Johnson at $1.90 (Sports Managed Fund 5% Bet)
ERNIE ELS to beat Jim Furyk at $1.95 (Sports Managed Fund 5% Bet)
LUKE DONALD to beat Geoff Ogilvy at $1.77 (Sports Managed Fund 10% Bet)
MARTIN KAYMER to make the cut at $1.50 (Sports Managed Fund 10% Bet)
June 14th – World Cup Day Four
There will no doubt be a lot of sore and tired heads in Australia after their 4-0 thumping from Germany last night. We did say that Germany looked the far stronger side and the ageing Australian defensive might struggle to hold them out but few would’ve predicted the level of the thrashing.
To tonight’s games and I’m really keen to see if Holland can get off to a strong start in the tournament. They take on Denmark who are known to play a fairly defensive game but the Dutch side look strong and should win this one with ease. I’d be guessing 3-0. The second match of the night sees our outsider for the Top Goal scorer in Samuel Eto’o and if he is going to make a charge for that title he’ll need to have a strong performance tonight against Japan and hopefully put 2 goals in the back of the net. Cameroon should win this game and win well. 2-0 the pick. For the final game of the night I certainly wouldn’t want to stay up late for this one as its almost certainly going to be a defensive game. Paraguay like to play a fairly defensive game and as always Italy, who possess some brilliance in the midfield, choose not to use it most games and instead seem content on a risk free approach. I would think this could easily end in a 0-0 or 1-1 draw.
Our Bets tonight are:
HOLLAND to lead at half time and go on and beat Denmark at $2.30 on SportsBet (Sports Managed Fund 5% Bet)
CAMEROON to beat Japan at $2.05 on SportsBet (Sports Managed Fund 10% Bet)
ITALY and PARAGUAY to have a DRAW at $3.20 on SportsBet (Sports Managed Fund 5% Bet)
June 13th – World Cup Football
What an interesting group of results last night with the Greeks very disappointing against a very upbeat and energise South Korea who now place themselves in the pole position to qualify in Group B with Nigeria going down to a solid Argentina who never really looked threaten and should’ve probably won 2-0. The main news this morning surrounds the horrendous goal let in by the England goalkeeper (Robert Green) giving the USA a very handy 1-1 draw. If you haven’t seen it, even if you aren’t a soccer follower, find a sports channel and standby cause it is the most embarrassing thing I’ve seen in World Cup Football. Why England didn’t go with the experienced David James i have no idea.
To tonight’s matches and it kicks off with a fairly uneventful match with Algeria taking on Slovenia. I’m leaning just towards Slovenia at the moment but not in a confident way. Both teams have a solid defensive core but no real attacking flair so I won’t be getting up early to watch this one but unders for total goals would be a good dig. The 2nd game of the night / morning sees Serbia take on Ghana and I’m really keen to see the hype around Serbia who have received strong support to be the 2nd team to qualify from Pool C. Ghana are a flashy side who play with their hearts on their sleeves so if Serbia don’t turn up defensively they will light up the back of the net. Probably a good game to watch as a prequel to the Germany Australia game. As I said in my original preview Germany should have the wood over Australia and their biggest enemy will be themselves. They are known to play a defensive style game which could play into the Australians hands who have it very light in front of goal but if Germany let them get close they do have a potent midfield who have plenty of scoring prowess. Alot of Australia’s fortunes surround their old and slow defence which is held together by one of the best goalkeepers in the world (Mark Schwarzer). Old and slow they may be but experience counts for a lot in these games and if they can stay tight the Aussies could surprise here and give themselves a shot at week 2, but I won’t be putting any of my money on it.
Our Bets tonight are:
No best tonight. I was tempted by a few odds. Algeria vs Slovenia under 1.5 goals at $2.50 on SportsBet or Slovenia vs Ghana over 2.5 goals at $2.50 on SportsBet but I’ll leave it alone tonight and just watch instead.
Lay the Poms Promotion
I have been talking a bit about Betfair for a lot of our Golf and World Cup bets trying to explain the difference in price and options available to you and if you haven’t already joined then now might be the perfect time with a fantastic offer on the table for new customers. Betfair is offering that if you back the Poms not to make the final 4 and they do then you get your money back. IT seems crazy to me because its a win win situation. If they don’t make it you get your bet and if they do make it you win the free bet. Click on the banner below to check out the details.
June 11th – World Cup Football
I know some of you have already joined Betfair so I will include the price from Betfair and SportsBet in my previews, however, as I stated in my last review all Managed Fund Bets will be placed through SportsBet.
Ok the world cup begins today or for those of us in Australia early tomorrow morning. There are a couple of good looking bets for the group stage qualifiers and we have a couple of bets for the opening rounds as well. After doing my review I had a look at the draw and there is an interesting skew to the draw. All the big names that I would’ve rated the best chance to perform well here are drawn on the one side of the draw (assuming that finish top of their group). That being England, Holland and Brazil leaving only Spain on the other side. Assuming results go according to favourites (which is usually reasonably accurate in soccer), then Spain would have Italy in the Quarters and either Argentina or Germany in the Semis which is a much brighter prospect than those on the other side of the draw. The only down side to it all is the price. As the current European Champions they have been installed as favourites at $5.10 (Betfair), $5.00 (SportsBet). I still like the look of the Dutch side and think they could really give it a strong push this year. There biggest problem is that if they qualify at the top of their group they will most likely meet Brazil in the quarters then either France or England in the Semi’s which is a much tougher prospect. Holland is currently at $10.00 (Betfair) and $10.00 (SportsBet) so they represent much nicer value. Might be worth waiting for the first round of matches though to see if there are some upsets on the cards and some variations to the top of the group.
In the group qualifying I think there is a little bit of value in 2 teams. In Group A, Mexico looks a strong chance to go through with favourites France looking a little weak to me, Uruguay also only squeaked into the finals through a play-off once again and the very weak South Africa in the pool. At $1.99 (Betfair) and $1.80 on (SportsBet) they look superb value. In Group C, I am amazed at the good price of USA as I think this is a standout quinella. Currently USA are $1.80 (Betfair) and $1.70 (SportsBet).
To the individual games and I think we have some value in the total goals scored in the first couple of games. In the opening game Mexico takes on hosts South Africa and I can see a lot of goals coming out of the opening spectacle. South Africa haven’t been a regular fixture in world soccer and the innovative and sometimes brilliant Mexicans should be able to find plenty of holes in a defence that is sure to be nervous. Add to that the fact that the Mexicans don’t regard defensive as a key factor so they may also let in a goal as well. Over 2.5 goals is paying $2.60 (Betfair) and $2.38 on (SportsBet).
In the 2nd match on opening day France takes on Uruguay and both teams are struggling to find any rhythm in attack which makes me think this could turn into a real grind. France will fall back on what they know best which is a solid defensive game and the occasional counter attack. If they get a goal in front the wall will come up. Under 2.5 goals is paying $3.05 on (Betfair) and $2.75 on (SportsBet)
Our Bets so far are:
USA to qualify in Group C at $1.70 on SportsBet (Sports Managed Fund 10% Bet)
MEXICO to qualify in Group A at $1.80 on SportsBet (Sports Managed Fund 5% Bet)
TOTAL GOALS OVER 2.5 in South Africa vs Mexico at $2.38 on SportsBet (Sports Managed Fund 5% Bet)
TOTAL GOALS UNDER 1.5 in France vs Uruguay at $2.75 on SportsBet (Sports Managed Fund 5% Bet)
June 9th – European and PGA Tour Preview
Our favourite tour (European) is hosting an event I know very little about and have had to do a large amount of reading but not coming up with alot of information. This week sees the Estoril Open de Portugal being played at a venue that hasn’t been used since 1995 so finding players who enjoy the conditions would be difficult. I do know the course is very high in altitude and the area often experiences high winds so picking players who can move the ball both ways and keep it low would be ideal. The quality of golfers is slowly dispersing with the top Europeans heading to USA to gear up for the years 2nd major, The US Open. Once again I would have to suggest CHRIS WOOD ($12) who we picked last week at $29 as a real contender and luckily I know some of you who used their Betfair account to lay off their initial investment when he stormed into $6 and looked like he could run away with things. But a woeful 2nd round saw him drop right out of contention and he ground his way to the finish line. It was a great disappointment for a player who I am expecting big things from in a couple of weeks when the British Open heads to St Andrews where he should love the conditions. DARREN CLARKE ($34) will probably also appreciate the conditions but to be honest if I felt compelled to back someone this week I’d look at some big odds. For the blow out punters I’d be heading towards someone like PAUL WARING ($81) who seems to like playing in that part of the world, BENN BARNHAM ($101) who has been known to put together a good round when conditions get windy and tough or ANDREW COLTART ($91) who has been threatening to be a Sunday competitor in the past couple of months.
I have had some questions recently about who I bet with and I know I can make things confusing so I will try and explain. All the prices I list in emails or the website are with SportsBet as this is who I deal with for our Managed Funds. The reason for this is it is clear and easy for everyone to see exactly what odds we are getting and can check the results days later if you miss an event. With Betfair it can sometimes be tricky to match large amounts of money which I need to deal with in the Managed Funds. However, without doubt the best betting agency as far as price goes is Betfair and the worst used to be the TAB. However, this are starting to turn a bit and the TAB is picking up ground on other agencies such as SportsBet, IASBet, Centrebet and Sportingbet but I still say no one comes close to Betfair. I’ll give you an example based on the price of one of our selected options this week in Darren Clarke.
Betfair – $44
IASBet – $34
SportsBet – $34
NSWTab – $34
Centrebet – $31
Sportingbet – $34
You can see clearly that most of the agencies are offering the same price of $34. Centrebet is clearly the worst at $31 whilst Betfair is way above the others with $44. The other beauty of Betfair is if Clarke has a good first round or is in contention come Sunday his price may come in to $10 and you can use the LAY option only available to Betfair. I know this is very scary to alot of punters, especially the smaller ones but you are costing yourself money if you don’t get one of these accounts. Even just backing Clarke straight out you are getting an extra 29% price before a ball is hit! If you’d like more information about how this works I am always available to email.
What a great lead up for the US Open we have for the St Jude Classic at the very demanding TPC Southwind. Often regarded as the hardest course outside a major event and the stats back this up. Players need to be clean off the tees but more importantly crisp with their iron play and not just hitting greens in regulation but taking some risks and making birdies as well. For this reason I am slightly leaning away from the obvious choice this week in BEN CRANE ($21) who has been blitzing every course he comes up against with results of 4th, 7th and 3rd in his past 3 starts. The only issue I have is he sometimes plays things a little too safe and I wonder when push comes to shove and it gets tight on Sunday as I know it will whether he’s got the metal to play the big shot. Although disappointing around a course that didn’t suit him last weekend I am back on the ROBERT ALLENBY ($19) bandwagon this weekend as he has proven he is one of the best ball strikers on the PGA Tour and a real chance to win either this week or next. CAMILLO VILEGAS ($29) came into the focus of a number of punters last weekend after a small return to form. Vilegas had a shocking first round of 77 before grinding his way back into the top 30. Definitely a player to get on when he gets some confidence up and if he is firing at the half way mark here I’d be keen to drop some on him winning the US Open.
Our bets this week are:
CAMILLO VILEGAS to beat Ian Poulter at $1.87 (Sports Managed Fund 10% Bet)
CHARL SCHWARTZEL to beat Justin Leonard at $1.90 (Sports Managed Fund 5% Bet)
STUART APPELBY to beat Aaron Price at $1.95 (Sports Managed Fund 5% Bet)
